Many, however, are not really important to the majority of us, and besides, it can be quite difficult at times to determine if a particular service offers the feature or not without actually using it. A service like Mozy is backed by EMC and, of course, Google and Microsoft are probably not going anywhere soon. One question to ask is if you think the service you are interested in will survive the inevitable industry shakeout to come.

I have not tried all-or even most-of these services, so a lot of the information comes from official websites and reviews I have read around the Web. Currently, most companies use a freemium model, offering a small amount of space (typically 2-5GB) for free and charging a monthly fee for more space. Along the way, I have been following the tremendous innovation and activity of this industry, and now there are so many options to consider that choosing one is a challenge.
